RESPONSIBLE AI

Useful AI is not automatically suitable AI.

TAM combines age-appropriate learning design, approved tools, human supervision, data discipline and clear escalation so AI supports learning without quietly taking control of it.

THE CORE PRINCIPLE

Capability ≠ approval

A tool being powerful does not make it appropriate for every learner, purpose or context.

RESPONSIBLE AI BY DESIGN

Clear boundaries. Room to learn.

Responsibility is built into the learning experience, from the choice of activity to the way students check and explain their work.

  • Age-Appropriate Use

Access and activities develop progressively by Standard.

  • Approved Tools & Purposes

AI has defined educational roles. Availability alone is not a reason to use it.

  • Human Supervision

Teachers and TAM facilitators remain responsible for the learning environment.

  • Student-Data Discipline

Synthetic, prepared or non-identifiable material is preferred wherever possible.

  • Verification & Ownership

Students inspect, challenge and explain AI-assisted work.

  • Fallback Capability

Learning activities should not collapse because one AI tool becomes unavailable.

AI HAS A ROLE—BUT NOT AUTHORITY

AI can contribute to the process. It does not own the conclusion.

Within approved learning activities, AI may offer different kinds of assistance. The learner must still decide what to accept and why.

HOW TAM GOVERNS TOOLS

A deliberate choice, kept under review.

TAM considers educational suitability, user group, purpose, data, supervision and school policy before a tool becomes part of delivery.

  1. 01

    Assess

Consider the learner, purpose and context.

  2. 02

    Approve

    Agree permitted educational use.

  3. 03

    Configure

    Set appropriate access and boundaries.

  4. 04

    Use

    Facilitate learning with human oversight.

  5. 05

    Review

Revisit suitability as needs and tools change.

SAFEGUARDING & ESCALATION

Protect the learner first.

Resume only when the risk is understood and controlled. Clear routes for support allow teachers to respond calmly and deliberately.

  • Contain and escalate

Harmful or inappropriate output can be contained and raised with the appropriate school authority.

  • Follow school authority

Safeguarding concerns follow school authority and applicable policy.

  • Pause when needed

Activity can be paused while a risk remains unresolved.

  • Learn and improve

Incidents inform improvements to future delivery.

WHAT RESPONSIBLE AI DOES NOT MEAN

Guided capability, not either extreme.

The aim is thoughtful educational use—not avoidance, unrestricted access or enthusiasm for technology for its own sake.

  • Not prohibition

Students need guided capability, not silence around AI.

  • Not unrestricted access

Access without judgement can create dependence.

  • Not tool worship

More powerful technology is not automatically better learning.

SCHOOL ASSURANCE

Alongside school policy. Never around it.

TAM is designed to work alongside school safeguarding, privacy, acceptable-use and technology policies rather than bypass them.
